Icognito in Chrome - enable or disable private mode in the browser. Anonymous Internet browsing using incognito mode Google Chrome Program in stealth mode browsing history

Privacy is what most of today's Internet users strive for. And this is not at all surprising, because many of them have to share a PC / laptop with relatives, colleagues or friends.

Google has been concerned about the privacy issue for more than five years. It was then that an interesting feature appeared in their browser that allows you to surf the Internet!

What is incognito mode

Incognito mode is one of the many features built into the "" browser that allows users to keep their browsing history private.

In other words, this is a mode of browsing sites in which no session data remains on the device used to access the Internet. When the user turns it on, the browser automatically stops recording the data downloaded by the portals and the browsing history, and also does not save the list of programs, pictures and other files downloaded by the user, while the files themselves and the added bookmarks are saved.

"Incognito" does not hide information from the sites visited by the user and his provider!

It is worth noting that the user can be in normal and anonymous mode at the same time, while only the data of those web resources that were opened in the usual way will be saved.

How to enable incognito in chrome

To open a new anonymous tab you need to:

  • Click on the icon in the form of "three dots", which is located in the upper right corner of the browser.
  • Click on the inscription "New window in incognito mode".
  • A new window should appear in front of you, in which you are warned about a mode change.

You can also switch to anonymous mode by simultaneously pressing the "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "N" keys.

How to disable incognito mode in chrome

To exit incognito, just close the browser window and launch it again.

How to view incognito history in chrome

Incognito browsing history recording can only be enabled using third-party extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

The most popular representative of such extensions is "Off The Record History".

1. After installing the extension, you must, on the settings page, allow its use in incognito mode, otherwise the history will not be saved.

2. The browsing history of the current session will be saved directly in the extension and will be available by clicking on its icon in the control panel.

It is impossible to view the browsing history after the incognito window is closed.

The browser makes it possible not to leave "traces" on local computer. However, some users have a need to save their browsing history, even if only temporarily. Consider how this feature can be implemented in Incognito mode. Google Chrome.

Off The Record History - plugin for tracking history

In incognito mode Chrome browser it is possible to save history temporarily with a small free add-on. We download it from the Chrome store and install it, after which a new icon appears on the address bar of the browser, activating Off The Record History.

The first time clicking on this icon, we get a warning (on English language) about the need to set permission for the plugin.

Open "Menu" - "Settings" - "Extensions" and check the checkbox that allows Off The Record History to work in Incognito mode.

Now when working in private mode in the shared history ( chrome://history ) information, of course, will not be displayed, and the history of visits for the current session will be available in the logs of the plugin itself.

Live a hectic online life? Do you know that there is a spy next to you? No, no need to look around: he does not stand behind his back and does not look at the screen over his shoulder. He is right in front of your face. And this is your browser.

Web browsers remember and store information about all of our online activities. Do we always remember what we need after visiting "secret" sites, when we go to them, for example, from someone else's PC? I prefer not to bother my head with this, but to make the browser “forget” about my online adventures for a while. How exactly? Meet: incognito mode.

Incognito mode in browsers: how to hide traces of network activity

Internet Explorer

While browsing the web incognito Internet Explorer, like all other browsers, does not save:

  • history of search queries;
  • temporary files;
  • information about pages viewed;
  • proxy data (information about Internet access through intermediate network nodes);
  • data entered in forms (logins, passwords, addresses, etc.);
  • cache and cookies.

It also disables all plugins and extensions, but allows you to create bookmarks, change settings and download files from the Internet. Bookmarks, settings, and downloads are not deleted after switching to normal browsing.

In Internet Explorer, incognito mode is called " InPrivate". To activate it, go to the menu " Safety” and click “ Browsing InPrivate". Or just press the combination Shift + Ctrl + P.

This action will open the private browsing window. Here's what it looks like in Internet Explorer 11:

To return to normal mode and cover up traces of recent network activity, just close InPrivate and restart your web browser.

Microsoft Edge

IN Microsoft Edge"invisibility cap" is located in the main menu, which is hidden behind the button with the image of an ellipsis. You guessed it, it's called New InPrivate window».

In Edge, it is not much different from Internet Explorer and has exactly the same features. It looks like this:

Opera

Creating private windows in Opera is started by pressing Shift+Ctrl+N or called from the main menu.

When surfing the web in this mode, each tab is marked with an icon in the form of a Do Not Disturb sign and the inscription Private Browsing. It looks like this:

To exit and destroy traces of everything that you did on the network, it is enough to close the browser.

Google Chrome

Incognito in Google Chrome is also activated by pressing the hot keys Ctrl + Shift + N or through the main menu.

The private page in this browser is marked with the image of a "spy" - a man in dark glasses and a hat in the upper left corner.

Once you're done, don't forget to close the window again. While it is open or minimized on the taskbar, the cache, cookies and temporary files of your "top secret" sites are stored in Google Chrome's service folders. If you leave your computer unattended, interested ill-wishers can take possession of them.

Yandex.Browser

In a web browser, switching to private is also performed using the hot keys Ctrl + Shift + N or using the menu. To get to the right place, click on the button with three stripes (main menu), click " Additionally” and choose “ New incognito window».

It looks like this:

After entering search query or opening the site, the dark background will be replaced by the usual one. The fact that you are working in private will only be reminded by the "points" icon on the top panel of the page.

Mozilla Firefox

To become invisible Mozilla Firefox, go to the main menu and click on the button " private window". Or press Ctrl+Shift+P on the keyboard. As you noticed, different browsers use one of two hotkey combinations for this: either Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+N.

Here, as in other browsers, you can open any number of tabs. The main thing is not to forget to close the window after finishing work.

safari

IN Safari browser on Mac OS X, incognito is enabled in the " File» – « New private window» or hotkeys Shift+Cmd+N.

The fact that you are surfing the net privately is indicated by a dimmed address bar browser.

The incognito function helps a lot when we access the Internet at the workplace, at a party or in a cafe. But remember that it only removes information from the browser. If your PC has an employee tracking program installed or there are spyware, then your data will still go to the left. Therefore, in no case do not use private browsing for online payments or anything that can compromise you. Here are your assistants - only home computer and personal cell phone.

The "incognito" mode in the Google Chrome browser is one of the types of browsing modes. In this mode, all history, all data, cookies, passwords will not be saved on your computer.

The essence of the benefit of the incognito mode is not to leave any traces of your activity.

Incognito mode

Many people think that in incognito mode, no one will be able to figure out your contact details, the history of visiting sites, supposedly this mode provides you with complete security.

In fact, the activity is far from anonymous, as you might think. Even using this mode you can't hide from:

  • Search engine, because it does not work from your computer or browser;
  • Your ISP, which reads your incoming and outgoing traffic;
  • Sites where you leave information about yourself in incognito mode;
  • Your ip-address with geodata.

Therefore, no private mode will be able to hide your visits to sites one hundred percent.

This mode simply removes traces of the most visited sites. By entering any site in private mode, your visit will be visible to the site administration.

Ways to save history in incognito mode

There are not many ways to view and save history in incognito mode.

The first way without installation third-party software is a simple DNS cache lookup or PC. To execute it do the following:

  1. We launch the command line "Start";
  2. Then click execute;
  3. Then we enter “cmd” (without quotes) and at the end “ok” (It was easier to do it in the following sequence: Win + R - cmd - OK).
  4. Now you need to enter command line computer ipconfig /displaydns and then press the Enter button.
  5. The above command gives us access to the list of visited sites on this device.

If necessary, save the necessary information in text file then run the command: ipconfig /displaydns> C:\DNScache.txt. Then the data will be saved in the "DNScache.txt" file on the disk with your Google Chrome browser. Pages in the list that appear after the command are usually shown as "www.", but not always.
The second way is to install the “Off The Record History” extension

The second way is to install the “Off The Record History” extension. The program is absolutely free.

After you install this extension, you can see a gray icon on the Chrome toolbar that looks like a small square with three sticks on it.

After successful installation, go to the “extension” item and check the box next to “Allow use in incognito mode”.

If you do not do what is indicated above, the program will not work. As soon as
everything is activated, the symbol from "Off The Record" will appear in the open window. There is an extension log, where your visit history will be saved in the future.

If you intend to view a list of sites that you have previously viewed, you just need to click on the extension icon, which is located in the upper right corner. After that, the “Of the record history” panel will appear on the screen, which is divided into two parts:

  1. "Recently closed";
  2. "Full history".

“Recently closed” contains the history of already closed tabs, and the “Full history” column contains both passive and active tabs.

Clearing history from incognito mode

If you need to clear the entire history, then click the button in the form of a trash can, which is located at the top of the add-on panel. After clicking it, the entire history in incognito mode will be erased from memory.

Also to delete the history you can just close the open chrome window. This extension allows you to save history for only one session. If the user ends his work completely in the browser, in our case in Chrome, then all entries are deleted.
