Internet in a new building: we connect the network. How to connect an Internet connection on a computer via a cable? No internet connection on computer

Recently, we have written a lot about solutions to various problems related to connecting to . Now it's time to pay a little attention to the problems that you may encounter when using a cable Internet connection. Although various errors and difficulties arise here much less often, you still sometimes have to deal with incomprehensible problems.

In today's article, we will get acquainted with the main problems and ways to solve them that appear when a computer is cabled to the Internet through a router. We will consider the case when connecting through this device. If you are connected via a cable network directly from the provider, then this is already a little different and today we do not touch on such a topic.

This type of connection is often used if you need to organize wifi network, but at the same time, there are stationary computers, you need to connect the Internet to them. And these computers usually do not have a wireless adapter. Of course, there is a way out of this situation without unnecessary pulling of wires - you need to purchase a special wifi adapter connected via USB.

Finding and fixing a problem with connecting the Internet via a network cable from a router

But for now, we will take a closer look at the topic of our article. If the Internet does not appear by connecting the computer with a cable to the router, then you need to look at such important questions:

  • Try connecting another PC to the same cable. Will it work?
  • Connect cable internet to a PC without a router. Will it work now?
  • The LAN LED on the router should be lit.
  • You need to look at the status of the LAN connection. What does it show? It may not show signs of activity at all when the cable is connected. Or it can start identifying the connection.

Depending on the answers to these questions, we will determine the cause of the problem.

The computer does not see the connected LAN cable

In this case, when connecting network cable, there are no messages and activity from the latter. The network connections icon is crossed out in red, and if you hover over it, the message “No connection” will appear. Everything looks exactly the same as if the cable was not connected at all.

Here, the problem can hide in three places: both in the router or computer, and the cause may be a damaged cable. First, let's check the health of the computer itself.

Connect a cable to it without a router, directly. If the network connection status has changed, then apparently the PC has nothing to do with it. Or you can check the opposite by connecting the cable through the router to another PC.

If the computer continues to not see the cables connected to it, regardless of their sources, then most likely we have problems with the network card. If necessary, you can always purchase and install another, especially since it is not expensive. But first, make sure that the computer does have a network card driver. You can check this by going to Device Manager and expanding the list of network adapters. Make sure your card is there. Its name may differ from what is shown in the figure below.

In some cases, the network card may be displayed, but there will be a yellow exclamation mark next to it. This indicates that the network card may not work correctly. You need to try to reinstall the driver for this device. Download it from the official website of the manufacturer and manually install it.

Sometimes you may encounter the fact that the connector for connecting the network cable on the router is burned out, or somehow damaged. Routers very often have several of these connectors, so try connecting the cable to others. Perhaps everything will work.

The problem may be in the router itself, this is checked by connecting it to several different computers. If in all cases the Internet connection did not appear, then it is obvious that the router is the culprit. This may not necessarily be a physical malfunction, perhaps just something in the settings is knocked down. Reset it and restart it, then check again.

In this case, you need to be sure that the cable itself is working. After all, he, too, can break somewhere, or have bad contact. You can look for another one and check it out. But the problem may be related to the settings on the computer. In some cases, LAN may be disabled on the PC.

Here you need, through the Control Panel, go to the Network and Internet section, open Network Connections. In the case when the status “Disabled” is under the local network connection icon, then right-click on it and turn it on.

Usually one of these recommendations is sure to help.

The network is constantly identified, or it is not recognized at all

Now let's see what can be done if the computer notices the connection of the network cable, but still cannot connect to the Internet. For example, they connected the cable and the network status "Identification" appeared. Everything seems to be cool and the network should appear soon! But time passes and nothing changes.

Another case is when the computer does not recognize the network and shows the appropriate status.

Usually, such errors are directly related to obtaining an IP address. Your computer may have auto-detection disabled. network settings, or a specific static IP address is written instead. For example, it may remain from a previous connection. But for a router, it is not correct and you will not be able to establish an Internet connection. DHCP may not work on the router itself, which automatically issues addresses to all devices. Again, you need to go to the settings and enable this feature, or manually enter all the necessary addresses on your computer.

To enable automatic detection of IP and DNS addresses, you need to go to the Control Panel and open the Networks and Internet section there. Next, go to network connections. You can get there in another way, do it as shown in the figure below.

Next, right-click on Local Area Network Connection and open its properties. Then follow the steps shown in this picture.

Disconnect your network cable from your computer and reconnect it. After that, the Internet should start working normally.

By following the same paths, in the same settings, you can manually specify IP addresses. Only in this case activate Use the following IP. Which address you need to enter, we determine using the address at which the router settings are available. For example, the router settings are 192.168.1.1, which means that the address must be entered similar to 192.168.1.60. We just take the address and change the last number to another, for example 60.

DNS can also be specified manually, they will look like this: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

No internet access (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark)

Or how it is displayed in the status "Without access to the Internet."

Such a message says that the cable is connected and everything is working successfully, including the router, but there is no access to the Internet. Perhaps the router itself is not connected to the network, or has incorrect settings. In some cases, problems may be on the part of the provider, so you can contact him and clarify.

The Internet has firmly entered the life of a modern person; it is used for work, games, news review or communication. It is not so important what goals the users pursue, the fact of its uninterrupted and accurate work is important. It’s good when the system is set up, and all that remains is to make regular monthly payments.

And what about those who have moved to a new building and have no idea how to connect the Internet. The 9-step instruction set out in this article is designed to help the happy owners of new apartments.

From life. I had to move to a new rented apartment, from the previous one - the owners asked. The apartment was not in a new house, but it can be considered a new building in terms of the Internet, since none of the tenants of this old house had the Internet. Therefore, I had to face all the problems that are written in this article. That is, the article can be useful not only for residents of new buildings, but also for residents of old houses, to which none of the providers has yet been connected.

How to connect the Internet Instruction

I. We are looking for an Internet provider

Initially, you need to make a choice and conclude an agreement with him. To do this, you can ask neighbors and residents of neighboring houses about the quality of services of their chosen provider. It is important to get information from the residents of your particular area, since they can know the current situation better than you, all the subtleties and nuances of interaction with possible providers. Yes, and they obviously have more experience (in the territory where your new home is located), if they have already passed this path.

From life. In a rented new apartment, the Internet was simply desperately needed, without it it was impossible to move, and they had already asked to move out of the previous apartment as quickly as possible. So I started by calling potential providers. In the first place was the telephone company, which served the installed in the apartment landline phone. Alas, the answer was not optimistic, there are no plans to connect the house to the Internet.

Then came the calls to providers, whose phones hung on the bulletin board in the entrance. The first call - and consent to the connection is received. But no one came at the appointed time. Repeated call, repeated promises, and again no one came.

Another provider did the same. And time passed. Called the third, last. Again the situation repeated itself. Then I call directly to the director of this last third firm. In response, of course, surprise, they say why no one responded. Further, apparently, internal disassembly, then the arrival of personnel, and cable laying.

It turned out that my order was the first in the house, and it was required to install special provider equipment in the attic. And for this, coordination with the housing office and other authorities was needed, laying electricity lines there to the attic, etc. and so on. Only thanks to the personal intervention of the provider's director, I finally became the proud owner of a leased line, which was brought to my rented apartment.

II. Dealing with additional services

An important role in the selection of candidates for providers is played by Additional services: telephone communications, digital television. If they are not needed, then this paragraph can be skipped.

From life. An ordinary wired landline telephone was removed from a friend in the house and a modern fiber optic cable was installed. The cable in the apartment was connected to a special "box", to which you can connect not only the usual wired telephone set, but also the Internet and digital television. After connecting the phone, the equipment installers immediately offered to connect the Internet. The acquaintance did not give consent, but if he did, then on the same day he would have access to the Internet on high speed on a dedicated line.

III. Choose a tariff

When choosing a tariff, you need to pay attention to key factors, and for optimal working conditions this is not speed, but the amount of data received per unit of time, that is, a second. Five megabytes per second is quite adequate parameters.

From life. I had no idea how much internet I needed in my new rented apartment. I looked solely at the cost, but focused only on tariffs with the maximum data transfer rate. The provider offered not guaranteed 10 Mbps. What does not guaranteed mean? This means that at any given time, the transmission rate can be less than 10 Mbps. I heard that there are providers that guarantee speeds of 10 Mbps, and even more, up to 50 and 100 Mbps, but I have never dealt with them.

Tariffs offering the maximum data transfer rate had a cost of 500 to 1400 rubles. per month, with limited monthly traffic. I chose it for 700 rubles, with a limit of up to 20 GB per month for receiving data, there were no restrictions on data transfer.

In fact, in life, I still had to switch to a more expensive tariff, which had no restrictions on both the speed and the volume of data transfer. Since for some reason any restrictions are quickly exhausted, and exceeding the limits hurts the pocket. For excess, you can pay many times more than for the tariff itself.

So, if possible, it is better to immediately choose a tariff without speed limits and without traffic limits. Of course, for those who really need the Internet, who need to work a lot with it.

IV. We place an order, conclude an agreement with an Internet provider

Then you need to contact the provider and place an order for connecting services.

From life. It is very important what is written in the contract with the provider. The fact is that you don’t remember about him until there are problems. And problems arise when they are not needed at all. And here the speed of response of the provider is important. My contract says 3 days. In fact, everything is done much faster, if possible right at the moment of contact, if there is no damage on the line. Damage on the line is usually repaired in less than a day. True, there was a case when the same device installed in the entrance failed. The error was floating (that is, it is not), so negotiations with the provider's technical support dragged on for 2 days. But after a competent diagnosis from the provider, the device was replaced in a matter of hours.

It is also important how contact is made with technical support, whether it is possible to contact them by phone. If communication is only possible via e-mail, then when the Internet fails, it is very problematic to send an e-mail. After all, this requires a working Internet.

V. We decide on a router, if there is a need for it

If the number of devices for the Internet to work exceeds one (more than one computer), then it is worth reporting the need. You can buy and connect it yourself, but only if you already have a similar experience, otherwise let a professional do it.

It is worth deciding in advance on the type of Internet: wireless or wired. The cable is brought into the apartment in any case. At using Wi-Fi, the cable is led to the router, and if the connection is wired, then it becomes necessary to reach the wires to the computer's network card.

From life. I needed to connect more than one computer. Therefore, the question of the router arose immediately. But aboutWi-Fi the question did not even arise, since both computers were at that time of the old modification, and they did not know how to work withWi-fi. So the choice fell on a router that received the Internet over a wire, and distributed it over wires, to which up to 4 computers could be connected. That is, wired Internet appeared in the apartment, connected to the provider via a dedicated line, and distributed around the apartment via wires.

VI. We lay wires if wired Internet is selected in the apartment

The best option would be to sketch the location of the furniture in the apartment. The cable must be run along the wall near which the computer or router is located. By purchasing the cable yourself, you can save. But for correct connection it must meet the following specifications:

  • twisted pair cable, single-core;
  • socket socket RG-45.

At the agreed time, an employee of the provider will come and run the cable to the apartment. He will also make the necessary settings and give explanations on the use of the Internet.

From life. In a rented apartment, everything is easier if the owners agree to the external wiring of the Internet. Usually they agree, if not much to spoil the interior. In your own apartment, of course, you want to carry out hidden wiring, hide cables in walls or under skirting boards. The latter (hidden wiring) is much more difficult, requires repair work, sometimes very serious, because an electrician is a difficult and dirty part of the repair.

Being the "owner" of a rented apartment and having received the consent of the true owners for outdoor wiring, I broadcast all this to the provider's specialists who arrived. They laid all the cables in no time, attaching them to the walls and baseboards with special glue. Everything looked great, but this glue later played a cruel joke with me. But more on that later.

The cable itself was brought by the provider's specialists, they also connected the connectors to the cables, they also connected the router and my 2 computers. So I didn’t have to think about the number of cable cores and types of connectors. Everything worked before my astonished eyes after about an hour of work by these invited provider specialists. And I signed a certificate of completion for them.

VII. We connect wirelessly if wireless Internet is selected

Wireless connectivity pays off over time and becomes more profitable for customers. This is explained by the presence a large number gadgets that support the Internet: laptops, smartphones, iPhones and even some TVs. However, it is worth taking into account that the speed of the Internet is divided between all working devices.

From life. My friend, whose phone was replaced, finally, having decided to connect the Internet, did not deal with wires, but ordered a router for himselfWi-fi. As a result, the interior of his apartment was not damaged, and without any wires (except for the wire connecting the router to the "box" of the provider), he became the happy owner of the Internet in his own apartment.

VIII. Possible nuances

One of the difficulties that potential subscribers face is the lack of connection in his house, while neighboring houses successfully use the Internet. Sometimes the choice comes down to a single provider, with a theoretical possibility of considering a dozen options. The point in this case lies in unfair competition - by paying the house management, an enterprising provider secures a kind of monopoly on the provision of services.

From life. I just encountered such a situation in a rented apartment. And this is written above. But there was no unfair competition in my case, there was a reluctance of the provider to deal with approvals when we first connected in our house.

Very relevant for the owners of new buildings is the situation when individual residents of the house begin to oppose the connection. They express their protest against the drawn up project or do not allow the cable to be laid through their territory.

From life. And here I ran into these troubles, which is called in full growth. The residents of the house were not against my connection to the Internet, especially since after my ordeals it became much easier for them to become a client of this provider. After all, the house was already connected.

However, as I wrote above, all connection cables were installed by employees technical support provider with a special adhesive. They did the same when running the cable from the attic of the house to my apartment. But the glue dried up, and the cable fell from the ceiling to the floor, and not on my floor, but on the very top floor of the house.

The chairman of the housing association was a miner of the old school, in the truest sense of the word. And he decided to determine the owner of the cable very simply. I took it and cut it. And began to wait, who will be indignant. This is where I showed up. At first I tried to find out the problem with the provider, but they said that they did not see me at all from their equipment. Then they sent technical support, which found the cut wire.

We made peace with the local authorities at home, the cable was repaired, and there were no more such incidents. Instead of glue, stronger methods of attaching wires to walls and ceilings were used.

IX. A little about mobile Internet connection without wires at all

Modern providers offer not only a wired leased line connection or a telephone line connection via an ADSL modem, but also wireless connection schemes. This is done as special internet providers, for example, Yota, and well-known mobile operators Beeline, Megafon, MTS, etc.

In this case, neither wires nor negotiations "with local residents" are needed for connection. It is enough to call or come to the office of such a company, conclude an agreement, purchase a USB modem or even a router (receiving a 3G or 4G signal and distributing Internet around the apartment, for example, with using Wi-Fi), all this is independently connected to a computer, and work with the Internet.

Not a bad solution, however, any radio connection is less reliable and generally slower. Although this eliminates a lot of problems, including in the event of a forced move, as I had in my life. For the mobile Internet, it is also in Africa - the mobile Internet. You can ride with him, within the same city, for sure.

Today, we are all heavily dependent on the Internet. And when it does not work, panic immediately sets in, the heart sinks into the heels and life seems meaningless. It may sound funny to you, but for some it is true.

Especially the user is lost when the internet is connected but not working. Today I will tell you why this happens and what to do if this happens to your network.

Why is the internet not working?

If you have an Internet connection, but it does not work, the first step is to find the cause of the problem. To do this, you must restart all devices that are associated with Internet access. This refers to the router, computer and so on. Most often, such a reboot completely solves all problems with the Internet, and it starts working properly. If, after restarting the router and computer, you did not get the expected result, we proceed to the following “treatment” procedures.

Today, most often the Internet is connected by means of WiFi router. If you also have, then you need to check whether the Internet access indicator on the router is on or not. For those users who use a TP-Link router, the Internet access signal is marked with a globe icon. On other routers, this signal is most often signed "Internet".

If the indicator is off, you need to check the router settings. If everything is fine with them, then we call the technical support of our provider and ask why there is no Internet, maybe just repairing the backbone or network.

But, if the indicator is on, then there is a connection and the provider is not to blame. Check internet access on other devices. It doesn't matter what it will be - phone, tablet or other laptop. So you can figure out in which direction you need to dig further to decide this problem. I will say right away that the case when the router is connected to the Internet, which is obviously working well, but at the same time it does not distribute it to other devices, is considered a very rare case. The reason for this problem lies in the failure of the router. It's not hard to fix. You need to reset all settings to standard and reconfigure it again, remember that after resetting, all settings will be lost and the Internet may not work until the router is configured correctly!

Often there are cases when only one device or computer cannot connect to the Internet using a router, and all the rest can easily go out to eat. In this case, you need to look for the cause directly on this device.

If you are connected to the mobile Internet via a USB modem or WiFi module connected to a USB port, then try disconnecting it and reconnecting it. If this does not help, try using a different port to connect. Perhaps a freshly reinstalled driver will help you solve this problem.

Checking Internet Connection in Windows

In the case when the Internet is connected on your PC or laptop, but it does not work, and at the same time you are absolutely sure that incorrect settings are the reason for this, then you need to perform a series of procedures that will quickly solve your problem.

You need to start reconfiguring by pinging any popular site. To do this, press the combination "Win + R". This will open the "Run" window.

In the text input field, you need to enter the following "cmd" and click on "OK". If you are not a fan of my site, you can write google. After that, press enter and wait for the result. If everything is fine, then the server will send you something like this:

If the response from the server contains the line "Ping failed to find the nodepec-comp.com. Check the hostname and try again”, then you need to type another command, for example “ping .8.8.8.8”. This is the IP address of the public DNS server from Google, which will always be available. If the computer has access to the external network, then the answer will be the same as in the picture above, but with different numbers after “response from ...”.

If the ping goes through the IP address, but it does not open in the browser, then most often this indicates that there is an Internet connection, but the network does not work due to wrong setting network card, namely, they do not contain or spell the address of the DNS server incorrectly. How to fix this, I will tell a little later.

If you see a different response from the server, then you need to check access to the router. We will also check with the help of ping. You can find out the IP address of the router on a sticker that is glued to the back of its case. Most often, the IP address of routers is "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1". The first address is registered on my router, so I got this response:

If the router pings, but the Internet node does not, then most likely the reason lies again in the settings of the router or in itself.

But if the router is unavailable for server requests, then there is a reason to get into the settings network adapter on the computer. But, before doing this, disable your antivirus and firewall, if any. Sometimes it is these two "comrades" that cause problems with working with the Internet.

If after that the Internet did not work, although there is also a connection, press the key combination "Win + R" again, but now in the "open" field we write "ncpa.cpl."

If you have registered everything correctly, then the network window will open. Windows connections. In it you need to find your active connection and right-click on it, then select "properties". In the window that opens, look for the line "IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and double-click on it to open the protocol parameters.

Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Click OK and check the result in the browser.

If this does not help, then mark the item “Use the following addresses” with a dot. You need to register an IP address from the subnet of your router. If it has an IP of 192.168.0.1, then set the computer to 192.168.0.2. If the router uses 192.168.1.1, then the PC will have 192.168.1.2. you need to specify the address of the router and register it as the preferred DNS server. Alternative DNS you can specify the server from Google - 8.8.8.8.

In any case, watch my video on speeding up the Internet, if you apply all the settings, then the Internet should work.

We increase the speed of the Internet to the maximum!

I hope at least one of the methods will definitely help you regain access to the Internet. If none of the solutions to the problem helped you, then you will have to call a specialist who will determine the true cause and solve this problem. But, I am sure that it will not come to this and you will fix everything yourself.

The reasons for the lack of network connectivity can be both software and physical. First, it is worthwhile to carry out diagnostics, which consists of three main stages: checking the integrity of the wires, setting up the router and computer.

Problems on the provider's side

It is possible that the Internet connection is not available through no fault of yours. If the system worked properly, no additional software was installed, no settings were changed, then the provider is probably to blame. Call the customer service center and find out if they have network problems. Additionally, you can recruit friends who use the services of a similar company.

If there Mobile Internet, go to official group provider or site. Users quickly respond to disconnections, so they often write their complaints in the group or on the provider's page. They will be an indication to you that the shutdown is ubiquitous. The only solution is to wait for corrections.

Checking the physical connection

As a rule, if there is no Internet connection, then you will see a red circle with a cross on the tray icon (on the right). This is a clear sign that there is a break somewhere. A rare situation is damage to the network cable or connector. Carefully inspect the entire length of the wire around the apartment, while looking for cracks or other defects. Check the connection to the site where the hub for several apartments is being installed. Breaks can no longer be determined (the cable is underground). This is the provider's job. If the plug is damaged, you will have to change it, and it is difficult to do this without a special tool and skill.

Problems with the router and their solution

Up to 80% of all problems are related to incorrect work router. If you cannot connect to the Internet when connected directly, skip this section.

Troubleshooting is possible through a banal reboot. If you have to do this regularly to restore operation, take the device to a service center for diagnosis and identification of the cause. Restarting the router is done in the following ways:

  • Turn off the power supply. Wait 10 seconds and then turn back on;
  • press the Power/On/Off button (if available) to turn off. Then activate the device.

At the same time, restart your PC. Do not hold down the Reset button on the modem (this full reset to factory settings as a last resort).

Settings in the web interface of the router

All changes to the router parameters are made in the system menu - the web interface. We will tell you how to get into it and what changes should be made.

Login to the web interface

To enter you need:

  1. IP address for modem access;
  2. username and password for the device.

The information is located on a label attached to the case. Look for the Default Settings or "Username/Password" block. Copy these values on a piece of paper or remember.

  1. Open a browser on the computer/laptop that is physically connected to the modem. Enter the factory IP, which is copied from the label.
  2. In the window, enter Login and password. As a rule, this is the English word admin.

The main menu of the router will open.

Setting up the internal network

The LAN item is responsible for configuring the local network parameters (" The local network"). At the discretion of the user, the range of working IP addresses is set here. It must correspond to one of the three ranges allocated for private networks:

Check the machine's default gateway. Through it there is an exchange with other devices. Typically, the default is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (if you use that range).

Setting up an internet connection

The second important step is to correctly configure the connection type. Providers can use:

If there is no internet connection, make sure you have set the correct type. Call the supplier and find out the information you need. Some modems in the interface have a "define" button. With it, the connection type is set correctly automatically.

Changing the IP address of the router

For the network to work, it is often necessary to set the correct router address. This is done as follows:

  • go to the menu and select the LAN section;
  • enter the required parameters in the IP-address field;
  • click the "Save" button.

The address must be within the range of the local network.

MAC address cloning

Some providers provide Internet access at a specific poppy address, for example, a computer. There is a need to change this parameter for the router. Most manufacturers include a mac address clone feature. It is activated as follows:

If you can't find a function, read the technical manual.

MTU setting

MTU defines the limit level of information transfer. This parameter controls the number of payload bits that fit into the packet. Everything is transferred without fragmentation, so you can increase the transfer speed. As a rule, the MTU is set automatically by the device, but not always correctly. A properly configured level will allow:

  • expand the channel;
  • minimize unnecessary load on the channel, which will increase the speed;
  • remove or minimize packet transmission errors.

Use the command Ping www.google.com -f -l 1500. Start with 1500. Then reduce the parameter by 5 units, and then check how many packets were lost. If all 100% of the data has been successfully transferred, change this setting in the router settings (in the connection type selection menu). Consider the fact that the limit values are directly protocol dependent.

PC or laptop problems

If all else fails, and the “no Internet connection” error remains, check your PC.

Reinstalling the network card driver

There is dedicated software for each PC/laptop component. Windows usually installs drivers on its own from its database, but this procedure does not always help. It is recommended to install everything yourself.

The best method is to download the required software from the official website of the network card manufacturer. Find the item "Drivers" or "Support" in the menu, indicate the model and version of the OS you are using. Download the installer and then run the installation.

The second option is the "Windows" tools:

  1. right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select the line "Properties";
  2. select "Device Manager";
  3. click on network card RMB, and then on the line "Update drivers".

The driver may be missing for some reason. Then specialized utilities, such as Driver Genius, come in handy. Download it from the developer site and then update any outdated drivers. The databases of the utility are regularly updated, so they are always up to date.

Replacing the MAC address of a network card

Users can change the MAC of the network card itself in two ways. The first includes the following steps:

Remember the MAC address includes exactly 12 digits in hexadecimal s/s only. After the changes, be sure to check the success of the operation through the console command ipconfig / all.

The second method involves entering the address through the registry. Navigate to the path shown in the image and change the NetworkAdress line in the DriverDesc parameter.

Enable network card in BIOS

In some situations, it is necessary to enable "network card" in the BIOS. We will consider the procedure using the example of a classic BIOS (not UEFI). To do this, enter the BIOS and follow these steps:

Now let's see how to perform a similar process on UEFI BIOS versions (example for Asus motherboards):

  1. open the "Advanced" tab;
  2. select OnBoard Devices Configuration;
  3. set LanController to the Enabled state.

Diagnosing Internet Connection Problems

We advise you to use standard means Windows OS to troubleshoot internet problems. Often this procedure saves you from a connection error, which eliminates the need to study the system menu and BIOS. To start you need:

Optionally enable checks for the network adapter and homegroup. Download and run the FixWin utility on a USB flash drive. FixWin is a powerful troubleshooting tool for operating systems from Microsoft.

IP acquisition settings

Using a direct connection without a modem, set the automatic receipt of addresses. These are the required settings for the OS. They install quickly and easily:

After that, restart your computer and check if the network is working.

Firewall check

Windows has its own protection against viruses and potentially dangerous resources. "Firewall" (or "fiery wall") is able to block access to specific or all sites. Luckily, it's easy enough to turn it off:

Remember that without installed antivirus your computer will be absolutely defenseless against malware from the global web.

Clearing the DNS Cache and Resetting the TCP/IP Protocol

Failures in the TCP protocol or DNS cache can result in connection loss. Users can reset the cache on their own:

These actions will not harm system files, so follow them without fear for safety operating system.

Enabling FIPS Compliance Mode

Try turning on Federal Compatibility Mode. This is a relevant solution for residents of Russia. Its activation is performed as follows:

Incorrectly configured proxy server

It is often impossible to connect to sites due to incorrect proxy server settings. The OS interface has a proxy change item. Go to Internet properties and then open the Connections tab. Click on the "Network settings" button. Next, check the box to use a proxy. Enter the correct IP and port. You can ask your network administrator (service provider) for this information.

Internet not working on phone or tablet

If you can’t enter the network through mobile gadgets, for example, the Internet does not work on a tablet, then the most common reasons are:

  • compatibility of the frequency ranges of the router and smartphone;
  • activation wireless hotspot access;
  • hidden network or not;
  • whether the DHCP server is activated on the modem;
  • Wi-Fi module damage;
  • Airplane mode is activated on the phone;
  • smartphone does not support WPA2-PSK encryption standard

If another device connects without problems, then the problem is in a specific device.

Other possible problems

We have described the most common solution methods available to ordinary users. If they don't help, be sure to call service center. Perhaps your router or network card burned out, then all the described manipulations will be useless. After replacing the components with working ones, of course, the network connection will be restored without additional actions (taking into account that you did not introduce additional problems during your own intervention).

Be careful with Chinese routers. Their menu is in Chinese, so it's almost impossible to figure it out. In such situations, try updating the firmware to Russian. Only after that you can perform any manipulations.

If you do not want to pay for the services of the provider's specialists, you can set up the Internet yourself. All you have to do is connect the cables correctly and install software settings. We will tell you how to connect a computer or laptop to the Internet, consider setting up several types of connection in a router.

Types of wired Internet connection

The active development of technology has led to the emergence of several types of cable connection of local or global network. Each provider may offer customers one or more types of wired connection. You may meet:

To connect the wired Internet on your own, you need to make settings in the OS and the router itself (if used).

Connecting the cable to the computer

As soon as the provider's specialists have laid the cable, the question arises of where and how to insert its end. There are two options for connecting cable Internet, each of which will be discussed separately.

Directly

You can connect your computer directly to the Internet only through an Ethernet connection. ADSL requires a dedicated modem, and if using only fiber, you'll need a media converter, SFP module, or optical terminal. Take the end of the LAN cable from your ISP and then insert it into the port on the network (motherboard) board. The port should glow orange. After that, software configuration is carried out.

Through a router

Users are more often interested in how to connect the Internet via a modem. The procedure is not difficult, and it consists of several simple steps:

  • Connect the Internet cable to the WAN port. As a rule, the router has one, while it differs in color from all the others.
  • Connect one of the LAN outputs to the input on the network card of the PC or laptop.
  • Be sure to plug the router into a power outlet.

You, thanks to the router, can connect several devices to home network limited only by the number of LAN ports.

Configuring different types of network connection

The user must perform all other manipulations to connect to the Internet in the operating system settings and the router's web interface. We will show you how to set up static and dynamic IP, L2TP and PPPoE connections.

Dynamic IP

According to the technology, dynamic allocation involves the issuance of a different IP for each connection, while the address remains unchanged during the session. To configure, follow the steps of the following instructions:

The data will be received from the provider automatically. Now you know how easy it is to set up a dynamic IP.

Static IP

Your address remains the same at all times, even when you restart your network equipment and PC. In this case, the user needs to request the following data from the provider: IP address, net mask, default gateway and DNS servers. Then, in the "Network" section, select "Static IP" and fill in the fields. Do not forget to save the changes after entering so that everything connects correctly.

PPPoE connection

You can connect to the Internet via PPPoE through the Windows interface. First, ask your provider or look in the documentation for login information (login with password). Setting up on the Windows 7 OS contains the following steps:

You can also create a connection in the router by selecting the appropriate type in the "Network" tab.

Setting L2TP

This is a relatively new type of Internet connection, which is actively offered by mobile operators and other providers. As in the previous case, you can create a connection using the operating system.
