Lenovo ideatab s5000 tablet pc specifications. Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 - Specifications

No matter how many large, full-format tablets are produced on the computer equipment market, compact tablet PCs have been and remain the most demanded. This is explained quite simply, because for most users a tablet is an opportunity to pass their leisure time, that is, its mobility is important. Of course, tablets with a diagonal of 10 or more inches in this regard noticeably lose to their brothers.

In this review, we will focus on the rather compact 7-inch Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 model, which will definitely appeal to lovers of stylish gadgets. In addition to a pretty external shell, the internal content is also pleasing: of course, this gadget is not designed for powerful tasks, but it’s able to cope with everyday ones with brilliance!

Design

As a tablet material, the manufacturer limited himself only to plastic, however, in the design he is involved in various variations. For example, the back cover of gray color has a matte rough surface, which is very convenient during operation. In its lower part there is a black mirror insert, of course, also plastic. In the middle of the cover you can see the Lenovo logo, and in the upper left corner - the rear webcam.

The mirror insert is also visible in front of the gadget: it is a kind of edging, which is somewhat more expanded at the bottom of the device. Above and on the side faces, it is visible in a thin strip. There is also a company logo located directly below the screen. There are no physical keys on the front edge of the tablet, but there is a speaker, a front web camera lens and a light sensor above the display.

Given the heterogeneous design of the device, which completely distracts all the attention, determining the dimensions of the gadget by eye seems difficult. However, the thickness of the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is 0.8 cm, and the length and width are 19 cm and 12 cm, respectively. Weight is 246 g.

Display, sound and webcam

The tablet screen is very compact - 7-inch, its resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels with a density of 215 ppi, the matrix type is IPS. These are fairly standard indicators for tablet PCs of this form factor, you can not call them ideal, but, in general, they are very good. There is an oleophobic coating on the display, which should protect it from fingerprints that leave greasy marks, dirt.

The visibility of the screen is good, inherent in the IPS-matrix. According to the manufacturer, the viewing angles of the tablet are 178 degrees. Thus, several people can easily enjoy a movie, browse Internet resources with ease. By the way, the multitouch function is also present, the screen supports up to five touches at a time. It is worth adding that the display is quite bright and contrasting, the image on it looks realistic.

There is only one speaker in the IdeaTab S5000, and it is located above the display near the webcam. You should not expect a miracle from him: the sound is standard, but something is enough to play, especially if you connect headphones. But there are two cameras, while the front one is limited by a resolution of 1.6 megapixels, and the rear one is 5 megapixels. At the same time, the main one boasts autofocus, but the flash is not here. The purpose of these cameras is known to all: the front camera is used exclusively for video communications, and the rear is useful if you need to take a picture. It is clear that with such a low resolution you can’t count on high quality images.

Keyboard

You won’t be able to tell a lot about the keyboard in the tablet, because it is not physical, and we can’t feel it. But there is a virtual keyboard, which is an invariable attribute of any tablet PC. It appears on the display as soon as you need to enter, for example, a word in the search bar or write a message on social networks.

So, here comes the standard Android keyboard. Its interface is very convenient and understandable, if desired, you can change various parameters, for example, language. In general, even those who have never worked with this operating system will immediately make friends with the keyboard!

Performance

We have Android 4.2 as a pre-installed OS, while the manufacturer promises that the system will immediately be updated to version 4.3. Options Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F includes a quad-core MediaTek MT8125 processor, built on the basis of ARM Cortex-A7 with an operating frequency of 1.2 GHz. By the way, this SoC is mainly equipped with budget tablet models. There is another bundle - Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-H, which has a slightly stronger processor - MediaTek MT8389. In addition to this feature, this modification is equipped with a 3G module.

In the role of the graphic component is the PowerVR SGX544 video card. It can encode and decode video, supports DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.1, OpenGL ES 1.1 / 2.0, OpenVG 1.1 and OpenCL 1.1.

There are no options for choosing the amount of RAM and internal memory, you will have to be content with what was laid down by Lenovo engineers. And they offer potential users 1 GB of RAM standard LP DDR2 and 16 GB of flash memory, some of which will go under the system, and 13 GB can be used. Unfortunately, memory cards are not provided, and therefore expand the capacity of the internal memory will not work.

Ports and Communications

Interfaces brought to almost all facets of the tablet PC, except for the left, which may not seem rational to users.
The left side of the tablet is not equipped with any interfaces.

But on the right there is a volume rocker and a gadget power button.

In the upper part, the manufacturer limited himself to a headphone jack.

At the bottom, you can see Micro-USB / OTG in the center, and next to it is a built-in microphone.

Options for this tablet PC differ primarily in the presence of one of them with a 3G module. In the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F model we are describing, this function is optional. In addition, without fail, each of them has built-in wireless communications Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n, as well as a GPS navigator.

Battery

The tablet has a lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 3450 mAh. Based on the manufacturer's assurances, this battery allows you to use the device for at least 8 hours with Wi-Fi turned on. And the engineers were right, indeed, the gadget is able to work for about 8 hours in web surfing mode and about 6 hours when watching movies. Even under load at 100% of the display brightness, the battery will be discharged no earlier than after 4 hours. We conclude that this tablet PC is incredibly mobile and ideal for travel.

Conclusion

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is just a godsend for anyone looking for a compact gadget in order to have fun and productive free time. Yes, it has a plastic case, however, this has its advantages: it is lightweight and far from the most expensive in the tablet market (on average, $ 290). In addition, it has a nice-looking design and definitely will not go unnoticed by others, especially since there is the opportunity to purchase the same model, but with 3G.

The tablet display, although it does not have a phenomenal resolution, is enough for 7 inches of what is. In addition, the IPS matrix will delight the user with good viewing angles. The filling of the device is enough to solve everyday problems, as well as for many modern games. A significant disadvantage in only one thing is that it is impossible to increase memory storage due to the lack of a slot for memory cards.

In general, the tablet turned out to be successful, and therefore we recommend that everyone who is currently in search of a quality device take a closer look at it.

Tablets with a screen diagonal of 7 inches are not unreasonably considered the most massive devices in their class. That is why, in order to stand out from the competition, manufacturers have to go in three main ways - to offer an original design, unique functionality or radically reduce the cost. The hero of our Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 review today refers to the devices of the first type, since it is the design that is its main weapon in the struggle for the attention of potential buyers. However, the technical characteristics of this tablet cannot be called too weak, as it is equipped with an IPS-matrix, a quad-core Mediatek processor, a GPS-receiver and an optional 3G-module.

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is packed in a silver-white cardboard box, at the lower level of which is the accompanying documentation and a 7.5 W AC charger with a removable USB / micro-USB cable.

The mysterious recycled cardboard design, which at first glance seems like a simple charging tray, can actually also be used as a temporary stand for the tablet.

Design

The seven-inch Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 model looks noticeably more compact than most of its classmates. A silver-black design of the front panel, the minimum width of the screen border and the characteristic shape of the case, hiding its true thickness, create a similar effect. As a result, the overall dimensions of the device are 116 by 191 mm, the thickness is 7.9 mm, and the weight does not exceed 250 grams.

The front panel of the tablet is bordered around the entire perimeter with a thin insert made of mirrored silver plastic “under the metal”, which is noticeably expanding in the region of the lower edge. Under the screen, only the manufacturer’s logo is applied, but above the screen you can find not only a 1.6 megapixel webcam, but also a light sensor, as well as the only speaker hidden under the mesh grill.

Most of the back of the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is made of silver plastic with a fine texture and only at its very bottom there is a mirrored insert “for metal”. A relief logo of the company is located in the center of the back, in the upper right corner there is a large 5 MP main camera lens with autofocus, but without a flash.

The left side of the body is completely free, on the right are the power button and volume control key. Only the audio jack is placed on the top edge, in the center of the bottom you can find the micro-USB port with OTG (On-The-Go) technology and a built-in microphone.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is equipped with a 7-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, which for this diagonal corresponds to a pixel density of 215 PPI. The brightness of the backlight is manually adjusted from 45 to 355 cd / m2, automatic adjustment to the conditions of external illumination is also available. The capacitive touch layer supports up to 5 simultaneous touches, the quality of the oleophobic coating is average.

Functionality

The device is based on a Mediatek hardware platform, using the MTK 8125 processor for the Wi-Fi version of the S5000-F tablet, and the MTK 8389 for the 3G version of the S5000-H. This system-on-chip contains PowerVR SGX544 graphics and four Cortex processing cores -A7 with a passport operating frequency of 1.5 GHz, however, the developers of the tablet limited it to 1.2 GHz for greater energy savings. As a result, the performance of the device does not break records, but it is quite enough for casual games and multimedia entertainment.

The amount of RAM is 1 GB, and the storage capacity is 16 GB of which 12.9 GB is available to the user. Expanding the data warehouse will not work, since the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is not equipped with a microSD card slot. From a full charge of the 3450 mAh battery, the tablet is able to work for 6 hours in video playback mode and about 8 hours in web browsing mode. The tablet is equipped with modules Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n, an optional 3G-module with a Micro-SIM card, as well as a hardware GPS-receiver, which allows you to use this model as a navigator.

Interface

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is running the Android 4.2.2 operating system, while the manufacturer guarantees an update to at least version 4.3. The proprietary interface has a number of differences from the standard one, in particular, application shortcuts by default are displayed on desktops with end-to-end scrolling; there is no dedicated section for applications.

In addition to the usual notification panels and settings, at the bottom of the main window there is an additional settings panel. We especially note the proprietary power manager, which allows you to evaluate the energy consumption of specific programs and hardware components, as well as fine-tune the energy consumption parameters for yourself. Calling this utility can be done from the settings menu or using an informative widget combined with the task manager.

Ergonomics

In terms of ergonomics, the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 strongly resembles a large smartphone. The thin, light and not too wide body makes it easy to operate with this tablet with one hand. The microphone location, speaker and proximity sensor is simply created for voice calls in Skype, which is especially true for the 3G version of the model.

The layout of the buttons will take some getting used to, as at first there is a slight confusion due to the fact that the power and volume keys are usually spaced apart or put the main ON / OFF button above the “rocker”.

Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 video review

Summary

As a result, we can recommend Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 to those users who are looking for a stylish miniature tablet for every day. This essentially budgetary model looks great and is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable work, except perhaps for the support of memory cards.

However, the main problem of this tablet is not in it, but in the competitive environment, since for the same money that they ask for it in Ukraine, you can buy a much more interesting ASUS Google Nexus 7 (2013). If the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 cost us as much as it costs in the USA (currently about $ 180), then it would have noticeably more chances for success.

The company has long been present in the market. It can not be called completely Chinese, because it was formed as a result of the merger of the Chinese Legend Holdings and the American IBM Personal Systems Group. Lenovo is now successfully manufacturing various types of computer equipment, including portable devices. As a rule, its products are distinguished by unique features that stand out from the competing solutions.

advertising

In addition to desktop computers, laptops and smartphones, Lenovo offers two main lines of tablets. Think devices are designed for business, and models labeled with the word Idea are more focused on multimedia use.

So, the S-series tablets are positioned as advanced stylish devices running on the Android operating system. Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-H is a seven-inch thin, lightweight and fairly powerful tablet, the design of which follows the smartphones of the company.

In fact, we have before us an inexpensive middling, which should be interested in its appearance, usability and peppy hardware and software filling.

advertising

On the other hand, there are a sufficient number of similar devices from different manufacturers on sale. The compact S5000-H will stand on a par with the ASUS Nexus 7, LG G Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and others. Lesser-known companies can also offer their options, including Huawei MediaPad 7 Classic, Wexler TAB 7t and others. So the IdeaTab S5000-H is not alone in this regard. And it’s harder for those Lenovo engineers - against the background of all the diversity, they should show something interesting.

We'll talk more about alternatives later, but for now let's move on to reviewing the hero of the review. IdeaTab S5000 comes in two versions: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi / 3G. The last one arrived for testing. Both versions are equipped with 16 GB of read-only memory and are available in silver-black. The option with Wi-Fi alone will cost about 10 thousand rubles, and for the availability of 3G you will need to pay about 2 thousand more.

The Lenovo S5000 tablet got a pretty elegant appearance. This modest in size and lightweight device can become a full-fledged companion due to its convenience and practical capabilities.

Design

Almost the entire front of the tablet is covered with a protective glass, only a small strip of plastic is left below. The main part of the rear case is made of a pleasant to the touch and a little ribbed silver plastic. This material does not slip in the hands, does not leave fingerprints, and from a distance it can be confused with metal. The back cover of the device is non-removable, in the middle there is a pressed logo of the manufacturer, and in the upper left corner is the lens of the main camera.

Display

The device is equipped with 7 inches. IPS-display with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. To some, such a resolution may seem very small today, but this drawback cannot seriously spoil the impression of the device.

Interface

The tablet runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but the manufacturer announced the possibility of updating the firmware via OTA to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The shell of the tablet is significantly different from the standard interfaces that we could observe in other Android devices. Probably the most notable innovation was the rejection of the application menu. Instead, the icons of all installed utilities are displayed directly on the desktops, and they can be independently moved between other screens and collected in folders.

Camera

The device received a 5MP main camera and a 1.6MP front camera. The shooting application opens in 2 seconds; it supports scene shooting, adjusts white balance, exposure and other image formats.

The quality of the photo is not very high - the device is absolutely not designed for systematic photography.

Wireless networks

The Wi-Fi model supports 802.11b / g / n with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Bluetooth Modules 3.0 or 4.0, depending on model. There is also GPS with A-GPS support.

The device is in operation

The device comes in two forms - with and without 3G support, like the “3G model” and the “Wi-Fi model” (the latter is practically never found in Russia). Different options received different chipsets. Wi-Fi works on the MediaTek MT8125 platform, and 3G - on the MediaTek MT8389. There is practically no difference between these chipsets: both processors have 4 Cortex-A7 ARM cores with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics and are equipped with the same performance.

The amount of RAM and internal memory is 1 and 16 GB, respectively. It is impossible to expand using memory cards, but there is a way to connect external drives with a USB host.

Offline work

The device is equipped with a non-removable lithium-ion battery 3,450 mAh. It charges about two and a half hours. The battery capacity is modest, but sufficient for such a tablet. In addition, the size of the battery could not be increased without losing the small mass of the device.

Summary

A tablet is not a novelty, and it has flaws. It will not work as a full-fledged gaming device or a producer of high-quality images. But if you want an inexpensive device that you can carry around constantly, then it is a good option, especially considering its weight and size.

The average cost is 8,000 rubles.

some kind of "scanty" review ... as if in a hurry somewhere
