Foreword

“I want to have my own YouTube channel” - this is the phrase you will say in your head in the very near future. If you have never thought about this before, believe me: it will happen sooner or later. There was not a single person left in my circle who would not express a desire to do this or did not already.

Why? Before you read this book, let's talk briefly about what you can get by filming and posting videos on YouTube. According to my personal conviction, there are a great many things in our world that I want to strive for. I personally strove for some of these things all my conscious life: the first is to freely express my thoughts, to share my views and my point of view, without embarrassment and public hearing. The second is to work for yourself, to be independent from others, free in your creative and ideological impulses. The third is to earn a decent living, do what you love, travel, make new interesting acquaintances, have a certain recognition ... All this can be given to you by video blogging. About two years ago, I fantasized, and dreams came true. Together with a friend, we created our own channel on YouTube, shot and edited our first video and took the first step towards the realization of our dreams. How did we do this? How and where to start? How to shoot the first video? What is needed for this? How to earn money? If you asked yourself these questions - you urgently need to read this book.

And finally. I write these lines, flying over the stormy blue of the Atlantic Ocean. With me is a team of my good friends and like-minded people with whom we will make a new joint project. Each of them has thousands, millions of subscribers on YouTube, a sharp mind and a clear understanding of what we will do in the next 2 weeks. We will shoot a video ... although I would say differently. We will do what we love to do more than anything! 2 years ago I was an ordinary student, like you, I probably did not know what to do, what to do with my diploma, where to go and what awaits me ... and I had no idea that my life could make such a sharp and quality twist.

Photography is the truth. And the movie is really 24 frames per second.

Jean-Luc Godard

In 2015, Youtube celebrated its tenth anniversary. Over the years, a small student project has become the number 3 site in popularity around the world, which only Google and Facebook are ahead of in terms of the number of visitors. The number of active users of YouTube has exceeded 1.4 billion people, and this figure is constantly increasing. Such a huge audience creates the greatest opportunities for making money.

The number of active Youtube users

The Internet has come into direct competition with traditional television, which every year is losing ground. If before the absence of a TV at home was considered a sign of low income or some kind of strangeness, now many boast about it, emphasizing their superiority over those who watch the “zombie creature”. A huge part of advertising budgets, previously intended for television advertising, is currently spent on advertising on the Internet, and the proportion of such costs increases over time.

A few years ago, a separate class of people stood out, the main occupation for which was shooting a video for YouTube. This has become possible due to the emergence of various ways of monetizing video. Previous ideas about the world turned upside down: for example, schoolchildren appeared who play computer games and earn tens of times more than their parents.

The stars of YouTube have grown to the level of pop and sports stars: they have a multi-million army of fans, journalists are running after them, they are invited to various festivals and seminars, and the annual earnings of some of them exceed tens of millions of dollars.

YouTube is an example of television of the 21st century in which anyone can shoot programs, be a journalist, musician, guide or music teacher. The rating system on YouTube works much more efficiently than ratings on ordinary television, so talented people quickly become popular, and various monetization schemes allow them to earn impressive fees.

In this book, we will tell you how to use YouTube to reveal your talent and start making money on it. If you have something to offer the audience, if you often have interesting ideas and you have enough time and enthusiasm to bring them to life, then your efforts will bring not only the gratitude and respect of many viewers, but also a good monetary result.

How much can you earn on Youtube?

More than 7.4 million dollars - that’s how much the channel’s creator earned in 2014 Pewdiepie  on YouTube, about gaming reviews. This channel with 43 million subscribers is the leader in terms of the number of regular viewers and the number of video views. A 23-year-old host of a popular channel about computer games Captainsparklez  hit the news bulletins after buying a home in Los Angeles worth almost $ 4.5 million. On its channel (9.1 million subscribers) over 5 years more than 3 thousand videos have been uploaded, which together have gained 2.4 billion views.

Recently, the Forbes website published a ranking of the highest paid stars of YouTube. There were 10 leading channels whose income before tax exceeded $ 2.5 million. In the first place was Felix Chelberg (creator of the channel Pewdiepie), and the second and third place were the creators of the channels   Smosh  and Fine brotherswhose pre-tax income was about $ 8.5 million.

The income of Russian YouTube stars, unfortunately, is significantly less than that of their Western colleagues, however, advertising budgets in the domestic Internet segment are constantly increasing, and in the future the situation will change for the better.

Youtube History

"Tune-In, hook up" (tune in and snoop) - this was the slogan of YouTube at the time of appearance. The most popular video hosting in the world was conceived as a dating site, but its creators at a good time changed the course of development. It is noteworthy that the date of registration of the domain is February 14, 2005, Valentine's Day.

Like Facebook and many other projects, YouTube was originally created by students for fun. According to an official legend, two friends - Steve Chen and Chad Hurley - wanted to send a video from one of the parties to their friend Javed Karim. However, the large file could not be sent by email. At that moment, friends had the idea to create a service where anyone could upload a video and show it to friends. From that moment on, the idea of \u200b\u200ba dating site was abandoned, and the created application was soon redone as a platform for downloading videos by everyone.

If these were ordinary students, then perhaps we would never have learned about YouTube. But the heroes of this story had very big ambitions and serious ties (Chad's wife is the daughter of a billionaire). In addition, the founding friends held high positions at PayPal. Therefore, investors were found quite quickly, and over the course of the year, $ 11 million was invested in the project.

A huge part of advertising budgets, previously intended for television advertising, is currently spent on advertising on the Internet, and the proportion of such costs increases over time.

The number of active Youtube users

This channel with 47 million subscribers is the leader in terms of the number of regular viewers and the number of video views.

A 23-year-old host of a popular channel about computer games Captainsparklez hit the news bulletins after buying a home in Los Angeles worth almost $ 4.5 million. On its channel (9.5 million subscribers) over 5 years more than 3.3 thousand videos have been uploaded, which together have collected nearly 2.6 billion views.

Recently, the Forbes website published a ranking of the highest paid stars of YouTube. There were 10 leading channels whose income before tax exceeded $ 2.5 million. In the first place was Felix Chelberg (creator of the channel PewDiePie),  and second and third place were the creators of the channels Smosh  and Fine brothers  whose pre-tax income was about $ 8.5 million.

This is what YouTube looked like 2 months after registering the domain, on April 28, 2005. The fields are visible: I am a man "looking for‘ a guy or a girl "from ‘18" to ‘45 ". This proves that the site was originally planned as a platform for online dating. Source: web.archive.org

To attract users, the creators of the project came up with different promotions, for example, Apple iPod players were given to random visitors every day.

In 2006, 65 thousand videos were available on the site, and the total number of video views exceeded 1 million.

Despite the huge popularity, the creators did not immediately understand how to monetize the service, that is, to make it profitable. The first advertisement was published with an apology to users and a humorous comment that this was a necessary measure, since there was nothing to pay the plumber.

A rather important feature of YouTube, in comparison with other video hosting and social networks, was the ability to exchange comments, send videos to each other and conduct a full-fledged video blog.

In 2006, Google began the process of acquiring YouTube. Previously, Google had an attempt to create its own video service, however, despite large investments, it did not gain much popularity, so it was decided to purchase YouTube.

In 2007, the Russian version opened, in which on the main page was displayed the video of Peter Nalich “Guitar”.

Despite the pleasant musical motive, the clip itself was intentionally shot in poor quality, and it is not clear why this video was announced at the time of the opening of the Russian version of YouTube. Maybe there is some self-irony in this?

Over the next years, not always noticeable, but useful improvements were introduced: the interface design changed several times, and was added HTML5  version of the player for mobile devices, support for video files with a frequency of 40 and 60 frames per second, as well as the ability to view video in high resolution: 2K and 4K. Technologies and techniques for combating pirated and prohibited content have been constantly improved, and advertising display algorithms have also improved.

The YouTube logo, developed by Chad Hurley, has not changed significantly since its inception. However, the service itself is improving every year, and soon we will have another update to the interface design

By the way, YouTube broke the breakeven point only in 2014. Despite the worldwide popularity of the service, its owners have to incur huge costs to ensure the smooth operation of servers (each video is stored somewhere, therefore, it takes up space on the server, and this costs money). In addition, a lot of financial resources are spent on legal debates with copyright holders and on the fight against pirated content. However, the service still does not bring any tangible profit to the owners.

What about the creators - by now, all three have left the project and now have nothing to do with the service.

How Youtube is different from television

To join the crowd, it is not at all necessary to go outside - it is enough, sitting at home, to unfold a newspaper or turn on the TV.

Wisten Hugh Oden

Everyone understands that in the technical aspect, television and YouTube are completely different technologies. Consider their differences in the context of perception by ordinary people. The difference lies in the fact that YouTube has an informal atmosphere and so far there is no strict political censorship. Most of the channels are ordinary people, not government or oligarchs. Thus, YouTube is closer to the people.

Television celebrities are far from ordinary citizens. At public events, they are guarded by specially trained people, and communication with celebrities occurs not directly, but through their managers. Around the stars of show business, a certain role is created and maintained, they are idealized. We are shown only photographs from the right angle, carefully processed on a computer.

YouTube in this regard is the exact opposite. Here you can chat directly with the author of the video: the channel description contains links to pages on social networks, as well as an email address and a button for sending personal messages. On YouTube, you can easily express your attitude to the video: like, dislike or write a comment. And many popular authors of the video specially organize meetings with their subscribers in an informal atmosphere. Moreover, these people live with us in the same cities, walk the streets, travel by public transport. In some store you can meet a video blogger with several million subscribers, shake his hand, hug him and say how good he is. Many YouTube celebrities like it when they are recognized on the street (although not everyone).

For the reasons stated above, if you are creating a channel on YouTube, you should not strive to create the perfect image of a host, like on TV. Many leaders have formed their own unique style precisely thanks to shortcomings that they do not hide. For example, the author of the Kartavoy Football program emphasized the features of his diction. A big mole, an absurd hairstyle, quick-tempered character - all this can become a highlight of the host on YouTube with a competent presentation. Of course, the advantages and professional qualities of the leader should outweigh its flaws, but a small flaw can become a hallmark.

What should be the videos on Youtube

Genius is not opposed to the crowd. Genius confronts ordinary artists.

Sergey Dovlatov

Light and bright

If your videos are intended for a wide audience, viewing them should be easy. Try to avoid confusing stories and complex terms. Learn to explain complex things in simple words. When mounting, decisively dispose of anything that can cause boredom in the viewer. Choose the optimal movie length.

Natural

Dress as you like and try not to imitate anyone. If you enter someone else’s image that is uncomfortable for you, then when you gain a large audience, you will have to pretend to be someone else throughout your career as a presenter, and this is hard work.

When choosing topics for your channel, try to be honest with yourself and bypass topics that you don’t like. If you are a kind, sensitive person, it is unlikely that you should shoot violent rallies, no matter how profitable this idea is from an economic point of view: sooner or later you will be disappointed and abandon this activity.

Good

The more views your YouTube video has, the more you can earn on ad impressions. It is known that violent videos with fights, accidents and other negative events quickly gain a lot of views, and the creators of channels are always tempted to engage in just such content.

However, if you expect to earn not only an affiliate program, but also would like to find advertisers with bags of money, then your channel should have a positive mission. Sow the reasonable, good, eternal. At least in general terms.

Managers of large companies are very worried about the reputation of their brand and are reluctant to take risks. Serious advertisers bypass channels that can cause negative emotions and negative associations with their product. They can be frightened off by the abundance of obscene language, vulgar appearance or behavior of the leaders violating the social foundations. Do not underestimate the scope of this problem: some popular channels are seriously experiencing difficulties with advertisers.

At the same time, videos with a clear noble mission get more likes, and people are not shy about doing their reposts.

A few months after writing this subsection on YouTube, the rules were tightened: channels devoted to accidents, disasters, fights and politics began to be massively disconnected from monetization. This confirms the correctness of the above arguments.

What you need to strive for

When a random viewer comes to your channel, you have only 10 seconds to interest him, otherwise he will leave. Try to create a positive impression from the very beginning. Poor image quality, an inexperienced presenter, a boring topic, a shaky camera, a hissing sound - all this is noticeable during the first ten seconds and scares people away. It is necessary to act according to the scheme:

Attract - Interest - Make a follower

Attract with a bright video icon and an interesting title, interest in a pleasant picture and an interesting storyline in the first ten seconds of the video, make it a subscriber thanks to the popular concept of the channel and high-quality presentation of information.

Ways to make money on Youtube

It seems that everyone was looking for the shortest way to money and at the same time avoided the most direct one, the one that leads through labor.

Henry Ford

There are many ways to make money on YouTube, including traditional advertising, product placement, calls to action, posting links in the description of the video, selling things with the channel logo and much more.

1) Affiliate program of YouTube, Media Network

- Youtube.Red, paid channels.

2) Referral programs, CPA (Cost Per Action)

- Fee for the performance by an audience of some action, for example, for registering on a site or installing a program.

- Video reviews of things, gadgets and cosmetics;

- Product placement;

- Shooting special issues dedicated to some event or release of a new product.

- Placement of paid posts on Instagram;

- Broadcast game video in Twitch;

- Posts on Facebook, Twitter and many more.

5) Own projects

- Sale of items with channel attributes (mugs, t-shirts);

- Development of computer games with channel attributes;

- Organization of events, meetings with spectators.

6) Third-party projects

- Work as a host on TV;

- Speech at seminars;

- Providing private advice on video marketing.

Earning on advertising

The greatest revenue for popular video bloggers comes from interactions with major brands and advertising agencies. This type of earnings includes both the direct participation of the leading channel in advertising projects, and the insertion of advertising in videos on the channel. In other words, an advertising video is inserted at the beginning, middle, or end of the video by agreement ( pre-, mid- and postrolls) For such advertising, popular Russian video bloggers can request from several tens to several hundred thousand rubles. In some cases, the author is provided with some kind of product, and he makes a review on it or in his own words advertises it, explicitly or veiled. An example of hidden advertising is the appearance in the frame of a T-shirt with the name of the movie, a mug with a logo, or a poster in the background.

According to the rules for using YouTube, the creators of the video are not allowed to insert ads into the videos themselves if YouTube provides a similar format (including pre-, mid- and postrolls). The administration reserves the right to remove such videos or disable monetization. Many owners of popular Russian channels violate this rule, and so far they have no problems because of this, but the situation may change in the future, so the reader should be aware of the possible consequences. With product placement, the advertised products must not violate the laws and advertising rules. It is officially allowed to do static insertions with ads (lasting no more than 5 seconds at the beginning and 30 seconds at the end of the video).

In addition to advertising directly in videos, almost any popular author offers advertisers a wide range of services. Among them: like and comment under the video on YouTube, the placement of the advertising link in the description of the video, the publication of advertising on the author’s page or in the VKontakte group, as well as advertising on Instagram. Each of these actions will cost the customer a minimum of several thousand rubles, and a maximum of several tens of thousands of rubles.

The most famous video bloggers are often invited to appear in advertising photos and videos, and the amount of the fee can reach hundreds of thousands of rubles. Some of them are called to work as presenters on TV (many refuse, because working on TV imposes serious obligations and leaves little time for creativity).

Books enlighten the soul, raise and strengthen a person, awaken the best aspirations in him, sharpen his mind and soften his heart.

William Thackeray, English satirist

The book is tremendous power.

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, Soviet revolutionary

Without books, now we can neither live, nor fight, nor suffer, nor rejoice and win, nor confidently go to that rational and beautiful future, in which we unshakably believe.

Many thousands of years ago, the book in the hands of the best representatives of humanity became one of the main tools of their struggle for truth and justice, and it was this tool that gave these people terrible power.

Nikolai Rubakin, Russian book scholar, bibliographer.

The book is a tool. But not only. It introduces people to the life and struggle of other people, makes it possible to understand their experiences, their thoughts, their aspirations; it makes it possible to compare, understand the environment and transform it.

Stanislav Strumilin, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences

There is no better way to refresh your mind than reading the ancient classics; it is worth taking one of them in your hands, although for half an hour, - now you feel refreshed, lightened and refined, lifted and strengthened - as if you had freshened up with a bath in a clean spring.

Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher

One who was not familiar with the creations of the ancients lived without knowing beauty.

Georg Hegel, German philosopher

No failures of history and the wilderness of time can destroy human thought, enshrined in hundreds, thousands and millions of manuscripts and books.

Konstantin Paustovsky, Russian Soviet writer

A book is a sorceress. The book has transformed the world. It contains the memory of the human race, it is the mouthpiece of human thought. A world without a book is a world of savages.

Nikolai Morozov, creator of modern scientific chronology

Books are a spiritual testament of one generation to another, the advice of a dying old man to a young man starting to live, an order transmitted by a sentry who is going on vacation, a sentry who is taking his place

Without books, human life is empty. The book is not only our friend, but also our constant, eternal companion.

Demyan Poor, Russian Soviet writer, poet, publicist

The book is a powerful tool of communication, labor, struggle. It equips a person with the experience of life and the struggle of mankind, pushes his horizon, gives him the knowledge with which he can make himself serve the forces of nature.

Nadezhda Krupskaya, Russian revolutionary, Soviet party, public and cultural figure.

Reading good books is a conversation with the best people of the past, and moreover, a conversation when they tell us only their best thoughts.

Rene Descartes, French philosopher, mathematician, physicist and physiologist

Reading is one of the origins of thinking and mental development.

Vasily Sukhomlinsky, an outstanding Soviet teacher-innovator.

Reading for the mind is the same as physical exercise for the body.

Joseph Addison, English poet and satirist

A good book is just a conversation with an intelligent person. The reader receives from her knowledge and generalization of reality, the ability to understand life.

Alexey Tolstoy, Russian Soviet writer and public figure

Do not forget that the most colossal tool of multilateral education is reading.

Alexander Herzen, Russian publicist, writer, philosopher

Without reading, there is no real education, there can be no taste, no word, no multilateral breadth of understanding; Goethe and Shakespeare are equal to the whole university. By reading, a person is going through centuries.

Alexander Herzen, Russian publicist, writer, philosopher

Nikolai Sobolev was born in 1993 and has already managed to earn more than one million dollars. What led him to success and how to achieve similar results yourself about this will be the topic of our today's article. A well-known Russian blogger began filming a video in 2014. In place with his friend Guram, the guy opened the Rakamakafo channel. Young people filmed videos and pranks on topical topics and quickly gained popularity. A year later, their channel gathered a million subscribers and entered the TOP 50 on YouTube. But then, one of the bloggers exposed them and accused that the videos were created by the team according to a pre-thought out plot.

Nikolai decided to create his own separate channel. At the beginning, there were few subscribers. The turning point was the video about Diana Shurygin. After him, the blogger collected 250,000 subscriptions in just a couple of days and received invitations from different channels. Now he travels around the world, launches other interesting projects. Kolya recently released a book describing his path to success. You can subscribe to his channel by the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNb2BkmQu3IfQVcaPExHkvQ   . And to create your own, read our helpful instructions. .

The path to success is the book of Nikolai Sobolev

As we said above, Nikolai released a book where he writes how to come to such a stunning success and to completely change his life in 3 years. You can read the book at the link: https://www.rulit.me/books/youtube-put-k-uspehu-read-480983-1.html  . We will briefly describe what the blogger writes about. Firstly, he talks about channel monetization that you can indecently earn a lot on YouTube. And he gives an example that in 2014, the creator of the PewDiePie channel earned $ 7.4 million.

Also talks about the history of video hunting. It's hard to believe, then YouTube was not always as cool as it is now. Nikolay share what the video should be for a wide audience, how to build a plot. Further, it tells about why he decided to create a project and how to promote it at first, only with the help of good content. The criteria for a good content blogger include:

  • The ease and simplicity of the plot
  • Video and sound quality
  • Interesting and relevant topics

Nikolai does not recommend filming stories about accidents, fights and other things related to violence, despite the fact that such videos are gaining momentum faster. Kolya advises “to bring good to the world” and describes in detail how to make money on it. Briefly about how and how much bloggers earn, we wrote in .

The path to success is a book by Nikolai Sobolev read a book

Read the book of Nicholas or download it for free at the link: https://bookz.ru/authors/roman-nazar4uk/youtube_629/1-youtube_629.html  . Many are interested in what the author intends to do further and what his personal life is. In an interview, he says that he is going to help children, as Chulpan Khamatova and Konstantin Khabensky do. Kolya, like well-known actors, wants to help people. What the blogger doesn’t intend to do is politics. He honestly admits that he does not understand all political games. As for the personal life of Nicholas, despite his great fame, he does not change girls every month. At the moment, he is dating a pretty young girl Polina Chistyakova.

According to Kolya with this woman, he would like to live his whole life. Also, the blogger plans to develop not only his channel, but also related projects. Want to gain such fame?

§1. Introduction

Photography is the truth. And the movie is really 24 frames per second.
