Windows 7 connects to wifi without internet access. The router says no internet connection

It is not uncommon to encounter a problem when, after connecting a device to a Wi-Fi network, the Internet does not work. There is a connection, everything seems to be fine, but the Internet does not work. Pages in the browser do not open, programs do not see the Internet connection. As a rule, this problem appears during setup Wi-Fi router A. But there are often cases when everything works, there is access to the Internet, and at some point it simply disappears. At the same time, the same laptop, smartphone, or tablet is connected to Wi-Fi, but does not access the Internet.

I myself have encountered this problem more than once. There are many reasons and solutions. Therefore, the main thing is to figure everything out in order. Find out who is to blame for this situation and fix the problem. It is clear that either the Wi-Fi router (which is most often the case) or our device on which the Internet has stopped working is to blame. It could be a computer, laptop, tablet, phone, etc. It doesn't matter. The result is the same - connection to wireless network yes, but no internet.

To make it clear, let’s divide the article into three points:

  • What to do if the problem is due to the router.
  • Solving the problem on a laptop or desktop computer.
  • And solving the problem with the Internet on mobile devices (tablets, smartphones).

And so, as I already wrote above, we need to find the reason why the Internet does not work on our device. As practice shows, Mostly the router is to blame, the Wi-Fi network itself.

If you encounter this problem when setting up the router, then follow the link and read a separate article with solutions:. Everything is described and shown there in detail.

If a problem occurs when Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work, always first check the router and Internet connection, as I described above. Since the reason very rarely lies in the laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other devices themselves.

If the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work due to problems in the router

How to find out and check? Very simple. You most likely have several devices that can connect to Wi-Fi. We connect them to our network, and if the Internet does not work on any device, then the problem is definitely in the router. Or, you can connect your laptop (smartphone, tablet) to another Wi-Fi network and check the operation. After you are convinced that the problem is in the router, you can try to solve it:

  • For starters, simple. Maybe even several times.
  • You definitely need to make sure that the Internet is paid for and there are no problems on the provider’s side. To find out, you can call the support of your Internet provider. Also, you can connect the Internet directly to your computer (if possible) and check whether it will work without a router.
  • Check if the wires are connected to the router correctly. Also look at the indicators on the router itself (are they blinking as usual).
  • If the Internet works without a router, then you need to check the settings. Perhaps the settings have been lost, and the router cannot connect to the Internet or establish a connection with the Internet provider. I don’t know what router you have, so look for instructions for your manufacturer on our website, in the “Setting up a router” section (menu at the top).
  • If the Wi-Fi network is not yours, then it is quite possible that some problems have arisen in its operation. Or, for example, a neighbor did not pay for the Internet :)

Here is another detailed article on this issue that will definitely be useful to you:

The laptop is connected to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet access

If the problem only appears on a laptop or desktop computer, then you need to check some settings. After connecting, you will most likely have a yellow exclamation mark next to the connection icon, and the status "No Internet access", or "Limited".

And when we try to open the site, we will see an error "The page is not available".

We already have a large article on our website on solving the error. If you have Windows 10, then see the article.

First of all, I would advise rebooting the laptop and checking whether automatic obtaining of an IP address is set in the properties wireless connection. You can do it like this:

What to do if Wi-Fi on your phone (tablet) is connected, but the Internet does not work?

On mobile devices that run Android, iOS, or Windows Phone, exactly the same situation. A connection to the wireless network may be established, but pages in the browser will not open.

By the way, on Android devices The Wi-Fi connection icon may be gray instead of blue. In this case, check whether the date and time are set correctly. If you are sure that the problem is with your device and not with the Wi-Fi network, then reboot your mobile device, and try to connect again. Also, check how the Internet will work when connected to other wireless networks.

If the tips did not help, then describe your problem in the comments. I'll try to recommend something.

There are several reasons why there is Wi-FI without Internet access. Often the problems lie in routers and access points, but there are also cases when the fault is caused by services installed in the operating system.

Read on to find out the cause of the problem.

Problem Determination

First you need to find out at what stage of the connection the problem arose. To make sure that the problem lies in the router settings, you need to try connecting to the Wi-FI network through another Windows laptop or smartphone.

If the error disappears and the Internet connection is present on another device, the user will know what needs to be done Wi-Fi setup adapter in the laptop itself.

In the event that access to the network was not obtained from any device, you will need to look for problems with the router, access point, modem or Internet provider.

It is also worth trying to connect the network using a network cable, bypassing routers. This will allow you to identify problems more specifically.

If you have access to the Internet via cable, then you should change the settings of the router or access point itself; if not, the problem is with the modem (if available) or the provider.

Disabling network access on the provider side

Sometimes, due to malfunctions or technical work, you can see a yellow triangle, which notifies the user of a limited Internet connection.

In the case where the equipment settings were not performed, but access was nevertheless lost, most likely the problem is on the provider’s side.

In this case, you need to find the company’s phone number, which is usually written in the contract, and call and ask about the reasons for the malfunction.

Advice! But don’t immediately rush to dial your provider’s operator; first reboot the router, since technical support will suggest doing just that first.

If the resource has loaded and access to Personal Area received, this will mean that the Internet connection is intentionally limited by the provider, possibly for non-payment.

In the event that the site does not work, you should call the operator technical support.

Operating system settings

If the access points are visible in the system on the laptop, reinstalling the driver will not be required.

When the Wi-Fi adapter is successfully connected to the network, but there is a yellow triangle in the system tray indicating a limited Internet connection, you need to disable the antivirus and Windows firewall, which, if configured incorrectly or malfunction, can cause a similar problem.

The best option for checking the functionality of the Internet would be to boot the system on the laptop in safe mode with support network drivers.

To do this, you will need to go to system settings by pressing the key combination in Windows “Win + R” and run the msconfig request.

After this, the “system configuration” window will open. In it you need to go to the “download” tab, where you need to check “ safe mode" with the "network" parameter.

If this option allows you to access the Internet, you need to start the laptop in normal mode, removing the previously installed parameters, and then, one by one, disable applications that affect the operation of the network. Most likely, these may be recently installed or updated programs.

You also need to scan your computer for viruses. The best option for this would be the Dr.WebCureIt! For Windows, since it does not require installation, it is free and always contains an up-to-date database.

Setting up the router

If Internet access is not available on several devices, the problem is in the settings of the router, which is distributing the connection incorrectly. This may occur when resetting the settings for the current provider.

To restore them, you will need to open the setup description on the website of the company that provides the Internet. Also, all the necessary parameters for entering into the router are often attached to the contract concluded when connecting services.

If the router was purchased independently of the provider, the instructions for it most likely will not be present on the website. You will need to find it on the equipment manufacturer's website. Also, documentation is always present in the box with the router.

Sequence of actions for making settings on D-Link router DIR-600:

  • enter your login and password (the default value is admin);
  • in the wireless network wizard, configure the name and Wi-Fi password connections;

Name Wi-Fi networks

  • by going to the tab in the lower horizontal menu “Advanced settings”, click on the WAN item located in the network section;
  • If there is a connection profile, double-click on it to make settings; if it is missing, add a new one.
  • in the window that opens, enter and save the settings that are indicated on the manufacturer’s website.

Also, for this router model, a simpler setup option is available by clicking Click’n’Connect in the main menu. However, it may not work correctly with some providers.

Restricting access on public routers

When you come to some coffee shops and connect your laptop to Wi-FI, you should not run programs to download torrents, since the network automatically turns off and is no longer restored even after rebooting the router, and access will re-open only after a day.

This limitation is set to ensure that visitors do not overload the already poor quality Internet access.

Installed system traffic filtering adds the mac address of your network for a while Wi-Fi adapter blacklisted on the laptop. But there is still a solution to this problem.

Since we do not have access to the coffee shop equipment, the only option left is to replace the mac address on our equipment.

Changing mac addresses Windows

On most equipment with an operating system Microsoft Windows, the best option changing the Mac address is editing the registry. Despite the visual complexity, it does not require much time.

Creating a new registry setting

  • create a string parameter named NetworkAddress in this folder;
  • by double-clicking on it, add the value of the new mac address, represented by 12 hexadecimal digits (for example, “406186E53DE1”);
  • Restart Windows to apply the settings.

After this, the adapter will no longer be on the black list, and therefore you will be able to successfully connect to the Internet.
conclusions

There are many problems and solutions for them. Having found out which equipment malfunctioned, you can find the best way to fix the problem.

Sometimes your system shows that e.g. laptop connected to Wi-Fi, but no internet. There are several reasons for this problem.

In the worst case, it could simply be a faulty cable, and sometimes the problem could be with the system configuration. We have compiled a list of possible fixes for this issue.

First possible solution is to reboot the OS and modem/router.

Reboot the OS: save everything open documents in the system and close everything open source software, if they are. Press Windows icon and click the icon Power. You have 3 options. Click the Restart button. When you do this, your system will shut down and then reboot via the boot disk.

Reboot your router/modem: Open your router's web interface and click the reboot button. You can also do this using the router's physical power button, or simply unplug the power from the outlet and plug it back in.

This usually solves most WiFi problems. If the problem still persists, go to next decision.

# Reset WIFI settings

Every time we connect to any new Wi-Fi network, it is saved in the profile list. Over time, the list becomes larger and sometimes interferes with the proper functioning of Wi-Fi. Deleting old saved networks will help you fix this problem. Here's how you can fix the problem: The computer is connected to Wi-Fi but there is no internet:

  • In the lower right corner of your system, you will find a " Net"(this is the icon that shows the Wi-Fi symbol).
  • Clicking on it will open a small notification window in which you will see all Wi-Fi connections. Here you will find settingsnetwork and Internet .
  • Click Network & Internet Settings. A new window will open with various Internet settings.
  • On the left side you will find the Wi-Fi icon. You need to click on this icon, which will open the settings window.
  • Here click " Managing known networks" .

You will get a list of different networks you have used previously along with your current one.

  • Click on the old network. You will see a button "forget«
  • This will delete the old profile. Be sure to do this for all saved WIFI networks.

Try reconnecting to your WIFI networks and check for a problem.

# Fix by disabling antivirus software

Wi-Fi is connected but there is no Internet access? As the next solution, you need to disable your antivirus software, running on your computer. If you are using third-party antivirus software, there is a chance that it is blocking your Wi-Fi connection. Disabling protection may help restore the connection.

Let's say for example, if you have Anti-Virus installed on your system, you can disable it by following these steps:

  • On the Windows taskbar, you will see a small triangle that, when clicked, will open in the notification area.
  • Right-click on the Antivirus icon.
  • You will see several options for temporarily and permanently disabling the antivirus. Select the appropriate one and check the WIFI operation.

# Fix for turning off Windows Firewall

Wi-Fi is connected, but there is no Internet on the laptop, what should I do? Windows OS comes with firewalls and they block the Internet connection on your system. Windows Firewall helps prevent users from accessing your computer's data and information. When the firewall detects a suspicious network, it blocks it from your system. If your The computer is connected to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet access, follow these steps to disable Windows Firewall:

  • In the Search section, select Open control Panel".
  • Here you will find all the tools and software.
  • Find " Windows Firewall" and click on it.
  • On the far left you'll find a few more options - click " Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off."
  • This will take you to new page, which will display a list of parameters - Public and private network settings.
  • Click "Disable Defender Firewall (not recommended)" for the network you are working on.

Remember that a firewall protects you from malicious virus attacks. It would be better if you use this solution if you have a third-party antivirus firewall.

This will disable Windows Defender Firewall on your system. Try connecting to your network to see if the problem is resolved.

# TOdate/time adjustment

If your system shows the wrong date or time, Wi-Fi may not work correctly (writes connected to Wi-Fi but no internet).

Here's how you can correct your system's time and date:

  • At the bottom right of the system screen you will find the date and time.
  • Hover over it and right-click to expand the options.

  • A new window will open.
  • On the left side, among the displayed options, click " date and time».
  • In this option you can disable the option "Set time automatically"
  • If you enable this setting, the system date and time will be set automatically according to the time zone in which you are located.
  • You can also do this manually if the setting does not change automatically.

After this, you can try connecting to Wi-Fi. If you are still facing the same problem, you need to take help from Windows troubleshooters.

# Fix using Windows Troubleshooter

What to do if you are connected to Wi-Fi but there is no Internet?

Windows has the ability to fix online problems using a troubleshooter. It only takes one click and all Internet related problems will be fixed. Follow these steps to access troubleshooting tools:

  • Open Control Panel. You can open it by typing "Control Panel" in the search window.
  • Here you will find all the control panel elements. Find the application on this page "Troubleshooting" and click on it.
  • Since we are dealing with an internet issue here, you need to click " Network and Internet".
  • Your system will look for the problem and fix it if there is one.
  • The process will take some time.

If this didn't work for you, we can move on to the next solution to the problem.

# DNS flush

To complete this process, follow these steps:

  • Right-click the Start icon on your system
  • From the list of options, select " Command line". You can also open Command Prompt by simply typing "Command Prompt" in the Search box.
  • You will be taken to a Windows command line application.
  • You need to type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press Enter.

Clearing DNS helps solve the internet problem if there is one.

# Change IP configuration to "Obtain an IP address automatically"

Why is there no internet when the laptop is connected to Wi-Fi? If Wi-Fi does not have the proper IP configuration, it will not work.

You need to enable automatic acquisition of an IP address and then try to connect to the Internet. You can do this using the following steps:

  • Go to your system's control panel. You can write "Control Panel" in the search bar.
  • Find here "Network Control Center and shared access» and click on it to get more options.

TCP IPv4 protocol - what is it and what is its principle of operation? In short, there are actually two Windows protocols that are responsible for connecting your computer to the Internet. Have you ever received such messages when trying to access the Internet - “Network without Internet access” or “WiFi connection is limited”? In this case, this text is also displayed in the control center Windows networks in status In this article we continue to solve these most common errors that occur when setting up the Internet.

Network without Internet access on Windows 7 or 10

I will write specifically about WiFi, but the TCP IPv4 protocol error “Network without Internet access” can also appear in a cable connection. She looks the same on different versions The OS is Windows 10, 7 or 8, so the ways to fix it are universal and will help any user.

But before we fix the TCP IPv4 Internet settings, first let’s determine the situation in which the problem occurs:

  1. The computer connects to the router, but could not access the network from the very beginning
  2. At first there was internet, but then it disappeared

The Internet on the computer did not work from the very beginning

TCP/IP v4 - how to configure the necessary operating parameters?

Everything is clear with the first three points - I have already written in detail about how to connect a laptop or computer to the Internet. There are also separate instructions for updating to a network card.

But let’s try to figure out the settings for the necessary TCP IPv4 operating parameters. Where are they even located?

If you have operating system Windows 7, then you need to go to the “Start - Control Panel” menu

Then go to the “Network and Sharing Center”.

If you are working with Windows 10, then everything opens much faster - right-click on “Start” and open “Network Connections”

On the new page, go to “Network and Sharing Center”

A page will open with a list of existing connections, or rather installed wired and wireless adapters. If your PC is connected to the router via cable, then we need “Connect via local network", if via WiFi - then " Wireless connection" Select the one you need and right-click on it, then go to “Properties”.

Setting up the Internet protocol TCP IPv4

Before changing anything here, all you need to know is, is your computer connected to the Internet via a router or directly with a cable from the provider?

If through a router, it doesn’t matter via WiFi or twisted pair, then the parameters that need to be entered in TCP IPv4 will depend on the network settings in the router’s admin panel.

If the DHCP server is enabled on the router, then obtaining an IP address and DNS servers should be automatic. In this case, the router will independently set them for the computer and connect to the Internet configured on it. If some values have already been specified here, then carefully copy them onto paper; they will be useful when further setting up the connection of the router to the provider.

But it also happens that the local network configuration in the router settings involves manually specifying the IP address on each device, or there is some malfunction in the DHCP operation.

In this case, if you do everything wisely, you must first assign it to the computer on the router, and then register it in the settings of the TCP IP version 4 Internet protocol. Otherwise, when DHCP is running, the router may automatically assign the address you specified in the TCP IPv4 settings to some then another device will have an IP address conflict and the Internet will not work.

But in most cases, in order to understand whether the cause of the “Network without Internet access” error is really in the TCP IPv4 settings, it will be enough to simply manually enter the IP address, and then you can specify it in the router’s account.

How to do this correctly?

First, we set all TCP IPv4 parameters to automatic, as I showed earlier, and save.
Next, you need to right-click on the selected connection type and click on “Details”

The DHCP server column will indicate the IP address of the router.

If this server is disabled, then you will not see anything here - in this case, as the “Gateway” value in the “Internet Protocol version 4 TP IPv4” section, try using one of two IP addresses - 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. You can find out more accurately from the description of your router model - here I list all the most popular companies. In order for it to be guaranteed to correspond to what is specified in the specifications for your model, you need to reset it to the factory parameters, but then all other configurations will also be lost - be careful and do this only if necessary and in full confidence that you can then return everything as it was.

So, after you find out what IP the router has, go again to “Wireless connection - Properties - Internet Protocol TCP IPv4” and enter the following data:

  • Gateway - router IP, for example, 192.168.1.1
  • Mask - 255.255.255.0
  • IP address - 192.168.1.3

Apart from the last digit, the first three values of the address must match the router address.

Save with the “OK” button. After this, most often the Internet starts working.

Read about why it happens that it doesn’t work in another article.

Wi-Fi used to work, but stopped

As trivial as it sounds, the problem of errors when wifi writes are limited may lie in your antivirus. Yes, yes, its activity in identifying and blocking potentially dangerous network activity can easily block the Internet, so make sure that the problem is not in the anti-virus complex.

In order to understand this, it’s enough to simply disable all the program’s security modules for a moment and try to go to some site - don’t be afraid, you won’t pick up anything in a couple of minutes on trusted sites. If it works, then carefully study all the settings and set them to values that do not block the connection to the router.

WiFi connection is limited to Internet Protocol version 4 TCP IPv4

Now about more complex things about setting up the TCP IPv4 protocol when connecting to the Internet, which are not on the surface.

First of all, the error may lie in, I wrote more about them separately. Carefully check the type of connection it has to the provider, what data the provider requires to be entered in the settings panel for the connection. Also check that the router's DHCP server is configured correctly. All these issues have already been discussed several times in articles - be careful, any inaccurate number or extra tick can cause a similar problem.

If everything is fine with the router, the wifi adapter is connected and turned on on the PC and drivers are installed on it, and you have the Windows 8 operating system installed, then the problem may be that in earlier versions Windows systems 8, the developers made a mistake in the network stack, as a result of which it was impossible to properly connect to the Internet via WiFi. IN latest versions and updates this was fixed, but on many computers this error is present and does not allow users to work normally.

This can be fixed by installing an update from the official Microsoft website, or another fairly easy method, but I warn you that you will do it at your own peril and risk!

Shall we try? We need to open the command line, for which we go to “All Programs > Accessories”. We find " Command line", right-click on the item and select "Run as administrator".

After this, a window with a black background will open - here you need to enter the following commands one by one, after each of which:
and successful completion there will be a confirmation “OK”:

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled

netsh int tcp show global

and check that all settings look the same as in the above screenshot. After this, you can reconnect to WiFi.

TCP IPv4: Network without Internet access

It seems that I have already described everything that is possible! But if, after using even all of these methods described in two articles, the computer tells you that “Network without access to the Internet,” but in fact the Internet is working, then we’ll do the final touch.

Even with a normal connection, this message may appear if it works through a proxy server that works on the provider’s side.

Go to the “Start” menu and type “gpedit.msc” into the search bar and call up “Local Editor” group policy».

We walk along a long chain: “ Local Computer> Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication Settings" and activate the following function here: "Disable active probing for the network connection status indicator." That is, we put the checkbox on “Enable” to disable this sensing

This will disable system automatic scanning for active connection to the Internet via TCP IPv4 protocol and the message will no longer be displayed.

I hope these tips will help solve questions about limited connection wifi and network without internet access.

Thank you! Did not help

If some providers do not support the ipv6 protocol, and the protocol is not used in conjunction with a router, then ipv4 is directly responsible for the availability of the Internet. Therefore, in this article we will look at ways to troubleshoot problems when the “ipv4 without internet access” error appears.

Why does ipv4 error occur without internet access?

When a user uses the Internet, the chain consists of three segments - the provider, network and user equipment. Failures or problems in one of the listed segments lead to a lack of Internet. But troubleshooting a router or computer will not fix the problem if the problem occurs with the provider. Therefore, to save time and effort, it is important to understand and identify the problematic segment.

The best way to determine is to eliminate the superfluous:

  1. Call the operator and make sure that services are provided correctly at your address.
  2. If you are using a router, check the operation of the local and wireless network by connecting other devices. If there are no restrictions on the part of the provider and it works with other devices, the problem should be looked for in the main computer.
  3. Connect the Internet cable to the network card of the main computer. If there are no restrictions on the part of the provider and the Internet is working, the problem should be looked for in the router.

Another way is diagnostics using OS tools.

If the error occurred due to the fault of the provider

Contact your internet provider and find out why there is no connection. In the event of an accident or scheduled maintenance/replacement of equipment, the provider is obliged to inform the deadline for completion repair work. If network cable damaged, request a repairman to replace it.

In apartment buildings, the provider’s equipment is located mainly on the roof. In the event of a power outage or power failure, the equipment is switched off. After power is applied, it usually takes 5-10 minutes to turn on. Sometimes a reboot of the computer/network equipment is required to resume operation. Interruptions in the Internet supply can also occur during thunderstorms.

If the error occurs due to the router

Before moving on to troubleshooting probable causes, make sure your network equipment is connected correctly. When connecting wires, it is important not to confuse the LAN and WAN ports. Sometimes the network cable is not seated tightly into the WAN connector. Therefore, it is important to check the connection tightness.

Solution 1: Check your connection settings

Open your router's control panel and go to network settings. Make sure that the WAN connection type is set correctly and the parameters are set in accordance with the requirements of the provider.

Also open the DHCP settings. The server must be turned on. The starting IP address is 192.168.1.100, the ending IP address is 192.168.1.199.

Solution 2: Reset/Change Firmware

Sometimes the router refuses to save the entered settings. In this case, resetting and re-configuring helps. Sometimes the firmware needs to be replaced, and in rare cases, the router itself needs to be replaced.

If an error occurs on your computer

Solution 1: check the connection settings / manually enter the gateway address

  1. Open Network Connections, where you select the properties of your Internet connection.
  2. Select the ipv4 protocol and then open properties.
  3. Make sure the settings are correct. If you are connected via a router, use automatic reception of parameters.

Sometimes the DHCP server does not transmit the gateway address. In this case, you need to register the gateway manually. Your provider will provide you with the necessary information when you contact us.

Also try specifying to automatically obtain an IP address. In meanings DNS servers please indicate:

Preferred is 8.8.8.8.

Alternative – 8.8.4.4.

Solution 2: Disable or change your firewall settings

If the message “ipv4 without Internet access” appears after installing an antivirus or firewall, or tampering with the settings, then temporarily disable the programs.

Sometimes you need to disable the built-in Windows Firewall. To do this, open Control Panel, then System and Security. In a new window “Windows Firewall”, and then “Turn Windows Firewall on or off”.

Solution 3: Disable power-saving features

Active energy saving modes contribute to temporary or permanent Internet shutdowns. Therefore, you need to double-check and disable the corresponding functions.

Power Mode

Open Power mode as shown in the images below.

Choose from Balanced or High Performance mode.

If changes were made to the plan, return the settings to their original state.

Additional network card settings

In Control Panel, select System and Security.

Under System, select Device Manager.

Find "network adapters" in the list.

Open properties network card.

Under the Advanced tab, look for green and energy-saving features. For each item, select “disable”.

Conclusion

If an ipv4 error appears without Internet access, make sure that the problem is not on the ISP side. Disconnect the router to avoid problems with the network equipment. If the problem is related to the computer, manually set the IP address and DNS server parameters, or use automatic or semi-automatic parameters, for example, only indicating server addresses. Also disable power saving features to prevent internet shutdowns.
